Care Instructions & Felted Wool Properties
Why is felted wool such a good material for hats?
Felted wool is a strong, durable and naturally protective material. During the felting process wool fibers interlock tightly, creating a dense fabric that holds its shape well while remaining breathable and comfortable to wear.
Wool fibers have a unique natural structure. Each fiber has tiny scales that allow them to lock together during felting, creating a solid and resilient material.
Is felted wool resistant to wind or water?
Yes. Felted wool is naturally wind resistant and water resistant to a certain degree. Wool fibers contain natural lanolin and their structure causes water droplets to bead up and roll off the surface rather than immediately soaking in.
This makes felt hats suitable for light rain and outdoor wear.
Does wool felt get dirty easily?
Wool naturally repels dirt and dust. The structure of the fibers prevents particles from easily penetrating the material, so most dirt stays on the surface and can often be brushed off gently.
How should I clean my felt hat?
If the hat gets dirty, it is best to gently clean the surface with a damp cloth.
Wool naturally repels dirt thanks to the layered structure of its fibers, so most dirt does not penetrate deeply into the material.
However, if the hat becomes more heavily soiled, hand washing may be necessary. Wash it by hand in lukewarm water, using a gentle wool detergent or mild soap.
After washing, gently press the hat in a towel to absorb excess water.
Reshape it carefully and allow it to air dry naturally at room temperature.
Can felt hats get wet?
Light rain is usually not a problem. If your hat becomes wet, simply reshape it and let it dry at room temperature.
How should I store my hat?
Store your hat in a dry place where it will not be crushed, so it can maintain its shape.
